SURVEILLANCE

Surveillance is taught as part of our foundation course, we see the surveillance component of the course as a vital element of all close protection work.

Some of our senior instructors have carried out surveillance operations at the highest level working both on military/government operations and private sector surveillance.
To ensure our students are well prepared for the Close Protection world, counter surveillance recognition and avoidance techniques are included in the foundation training.

During the Surveillance phase students are taught the fundamentals of static and mobile surveillance, this element covers:

  • Types of Surveillance, covert, overt, protective surveillance and counter surveillance.
Photography, black and white 35mm, including the developing and printing of photographs.
  • Communication.
  • Being invisible to your surveillance target.
  • Surveillance report writing.

Students learn the application of surveillance skills through a series of surveillance exercises. Each exercise is designed to create a learning environment where students operate in public places, carrying out actual surveillance.
As students progress the exercises become increasingly complex, using different locations and scenarios, with multiple targets, handovers and dead drops.

After each exercise student prepare their reports developing and using the photographs they have taken during the operation. The reports once compiled are then assessed by the course instructors and learning points fed back to the students ready for the next phase.

Students are also taught how to recognize when they themselves are under surveillance. Detection and avoidance of hostile surveillance is a vital part of the Close protection officers skill set taught at the center and an invaluable tool when used effectively by professional Close Protection Officers.
